About Mats Bäckström

I'm Mats Bäckström, The only Certified Dangerous Goods Professional in Scandinavia. Some will also say that I'm certifiably addicted to Dangerous Goods, I might just be :) I'm Swedish, live in Sweden but have since 1999 primarily worked in Denmark. I speak Danish much better than I write it ;-)

I spent 1990-2017 with DHL Aviation and from 2005 as the Nordic Restricted Commodities Manager, responsible for all Dangerous Goods traveling in DHLs Nordic air and road networks. Having that background and leading many European and Global projects connected to the Dangerous Goods World leaves me with a great foundation for my new endeavor.

Since 2003 I've also been involved in a dynamic sport at the highest international level. Coaching, Leading and participating in events around the globe.

Having provided over 500 courses and coached athletes for many years gives me the tools to provide courses that take a subject (DG) often perceived as dry and boring and making it interesting, interactive and fun. Try our courses and you'll find out.

Mats also design and deliver restricted cargo trainings and compliance programs on behalf of IATA.

Paul was also a founding committee member of the British Association of Dangerous Goods Professionals. Paul began his career with dangerous goods as a Movement Controller in the British Army.

IATA AutoCheck

Project Team

DG SafetyGroup was chosen by IATA as the external consultant to help develop the game changing DG AutoCheck program. DG AutoCheck will together with e-DGD make it possible to fully digitize the dangerous goods acceptance process

DG AutoCheck optimizes certain functions related to the booking, preparation and acceptance of dangerous goods declarations to deliver faster and more reliable processing and ensure the safe and compliant shipment of dangerous goods

We have built in several smart features into the program that will ensure that many things that are easily overlooked due to the complexity of the regulations are caught.

Being part of the development team DG SafetyGroup is the only organization outside of IATA that can demo the product. If your organization accept dangerous goods drop us a line and we will be happy to demo DG AutoCheck to you.

The Battery Show Europe 2018

I had the honor of being asked to speak at Europe's largest event for the battery industry. Together with the EU Commission and IATA we spoke and answered questions about the lithium battery world.

Dr. Akos Kriston of the EU Commission focused on the technical aspects of lithium batteries while Paul Horner of IATA and myself focus on the challenges and opportunities facing the lithium battery supply chain.

Unfortunately we did not have time to answer all the questions which proved that there is a great interest in trying to understand the regulations and moving LiBa easier.

If you transport lithium batteries contact DG SafetyGroup and we'll find the best solution for you.
